        Why not a 12 U Enclosed Rack?
        https://www.racksolutions.com/portable-server-rack.html

I'd like to get a standing rack just for comfort when working on it

A rack on wheels will do the exact same thing - except not be so messy.

Here's one I did for a previous company. This is going on carpet so Idk if wheels are the right call

I thought APC immediately. Good stuff!

Not really a rack for servers though. What did you plan to put in it?

I have one server for my home lab, a 48 port uniquiti edgeswitch, er4, two patch panels, etc etc. Nothing crazy.

The problem with your current rack and the APC rack is that you need space around it so you can access it. When you have something on wheels you can roll it into the corner.

Do you have cat6 wiring on the wall? How many outlets?

yes my entire house is cat6. I have around 20 outlets with multiple ports active depending on where it is

So with a 24 port switch you can hook up all outlets?

no every outlet has 2 ethernet ports, so that's 40+. Then I have 2 access points and 3 security cameras. I will expand my security system in the future too.

OK, I think you should split it up.

One wall mounted short depth enclosed rack with the switches and patch panels. That's you campus network. Mount it high on the wall.

Then a half height server rack encloses on wheels with your "datacenter" equipment. There you'll put you servers, NAS or whatever you have.

This whole thing seems weird... why is this out in the living space and not in a closet? Even if you had to build a closet in that corner of the room, to me that would be the best look.

I think you're forgetting that time that my fiance refused to move a power outlet that costed us $100 because, and I quote, "we are not millionaires" when I said we would eventually mount a TV on the wall.

            This is my life:

Note: She now has to pay a lot more to have it moved and I'm not paying a cent 😉

I could split them. I'd rather capitalize on the cable management systems of the stand up racks though. I haven't seen any actual cable management systems in any of these so far

That's what I do. A quarter rack for network equipment and cables up on the wall. Floor standing quarter or half rack for heavy stuff like servers.

                    Depends on what you buy.

And the need for cable management depends on how you do your cabling and what you mount where.

For instance the way you mounted the switch in the middle and the patch panels above and below is a clever way to do it.

                        It is very flexible.

Yeah, I wish my cable installers would have gone that direction.... Definitely something I will use the next time I have a large cabling project.

Long ago. These days the only thing going on here is packing. So most everything has been shipped out already.

Wish I had a picture but alas I do not. My old house, pre wife, I had a wall mount rack with patch panel and switch (12 port 100Mbit at the time). Rest of rack equipment was in a old 2 post rack I, um, acquired from work. This is what I had:
                                  https://www.startech.com/en-us/server-management/wallmounth2
Since then I have so little room for any equipment anywhere I've given up on having any sort of home lab for now.

The cables are all inside a closed cabinet, high on the wall. No one will see anything but the front if you have a smoked glass front on the wall cabinet.

You should have a single fiber going from the wall cabinet to the floor cabinet and then a switch in the floor cabinet for all of that stuff as needed.

When working to support 911 systems we used half rack on wheels. Most very small county PSAP are to small to have a full anchored rack. They could be pushed back when access wasn’t needed, and of course out when needed.

Since emergency calls where being handled by these things, they of course had to be secure.

ETA: hate typing on the phone,....
