Who do you use for a 1U RackmountPC?
-
@EddieJennings I would rather have the OS on bare metal. We're a Dell partner, I can't get what I want from Dell.
I need 16TB in Raid5, 16GB Ram, Discreet Graphics, M.2 boot drive, Windows 10 Pro.
I see Windows 10 Pro for Workstation, will let me use Xeon processors, I'll revisit the Dells.
-
@JasGot I have used both but I preferred OnLogic

I would go with a standard 1U server and just run Windows 10 on it instead of a hypervisor if that is your need.
You should be able to get a PCI riser card in order to put in a full sized video card of some kind.

Dell has 1U precision workstations. I'd look at those.

I thought they stopped making those.

They have a 3930 on the product page that is 1U and can be configured with 9th gen Intel CPUs.

also check with xByte sometimes they have the rackmount workstations.

I can't get over how few places I can find that sell such a beast. I went to SuperMicro first, I didn't realize they didn't sell fully built machines.
They are an OEM, you go to one of their partners to get the fully build machines.

I need a rackmount PC that will run Windows 10 pro. Must have room for 4 3.5" hard drives.
I guess I'll ask it since nobody else did....
Why?
-
If you want Dell, you could use something like a R6515 with the 4x3.5" front.
M.2 for boot you get with the boss card. You have two PCIe x16 slots that can take a half length GPU card.
One AMD Epyc CPU in these, from 8 cores and up to 64.But the smaller models, like R340 can also do half length PCIe cards. I fail to see what the problem is really.
The single CPU servers using Intel CPUs are constrained when it comes to PCIe lanes. But other than they should be fine.Or do you have some special need for a certain GPU or something?
Or is it the Windows 10 drivers for the server that you are worried about?
-
It's a video processing application.
I need a basic GPU, any discreet card will get me what I need.
To get the rackmount (from dell anyway) you cannot get a 3rd 8TB hard drive.

Just order the drive separate?

I've only had to deal with Dell's enterprise sales team but my experience is that they'll put together whatever you need - even if a particular combination doesn't exist in their web config tool.

@Pete-S Yea, I called our Partner rep. they are building it for me now. I think it is going to be pricey......
May end up building one from the ground up. Haven't done that is over 15 years!

This is definitely a case (pun intended) where whiteboxing is going to be the way to go, or near white boxing, with a SuperMicro partner.
