Huzzah for Me!
-
So I have been waiting for WEEKS to find out when I start at McAfee. My background check took an exorbitantly long time to complete. However, it's through. My scheduled start date is 4 weeks from my accept date, on Sept 3rd. It'll be almost to the hour too. I start at 10AM. However, that is not the reason for my huzzah.
McAfee is a pretty dang large company, being combined with Intel. Also, they have clients like Verizon on their list. While I personally despise every McAfee product I've tried, which includes both enterprise and consumer products, I will be supporting them. The cool thing, and the reason for my huzzah, is because I'm going to be Tier I on the Enterprise support desk! That's a pretty big step up! I was told I will be trained on some of their up-and-coming software and will get a chance to learn about their top-level stuff. I'm seriously excited and hope to prove my stuff and move up at the company. As long as they don't try to make me run McAfee on my laptop, we'll be good.
Anyways, that's my huzzah! I start in a week! WOOHOO!
Thanks,
A.J. -
Congrats, While I will still think their software is bloated.

Ditto. I had their Enterprise AV (got a free license kit one time) cause a memory leak on my Server 2008 R2 server and crash it. Fun fun. Had to rebuild my home's DNS server for my mom while I'm at work!!

Fair enough. They'll never see it but yeah, true.

All employees of McAfee are required to install "McAfee security" to their computers
"As long as they don't try to make me run McAfee on my laptop, we'll be good.
Bwahaha -
Congrats. And welcome to enterprise IT. Will definitely be good for you seeing the workings of a Fortune 100 from the inside.

You sure? ML is indexed by search engines. Someone Googling "A J Stringham McAfee" may well end up here and that could be bad news for you.
Anyway, congrats on your new job.

Seriously, this. I cannot believe you even THOUGHT to say they would never see this. Social media searching is very common practice now for corporations large enough to have a dedicated HR department.

Last time that I sat in an interview room the hiring manager started talking about one if my books to the COO. They were discussing my ideas and writings. They had read my posts on forums, my articles, my personal blog, my books, etc.

Nothing compared to SW but the SEO improves here everyday and there are topics that I search sometimes where ML is the top hit.

Saw your LinkedIn update this morning - congrats!
-
Congrats A.J. If nothing else, the experience dealing with politics and keeping your cool under pressure will be worth it.
-
Congrats on the new job! Which way around is their support pyramid? Is level 1 at the top or is level one the front line commando's?
-
Normally in the US L1 is the pyramid base and L3 is the top before hitting SMEs.
L0 is becoming common for "sub IT" tasks.
