FreePBX Random Trunk Disconnect
-
Has anyone else had random disconnects from Voip.ms this week or last? I have had 6 different FreePBX servers randomly disconnect from Voip.ms and not reconnect without manually pressing Submit and Apply Settings.
The dashboard shows the trunk as connected but the Reports > Asterisk Info > Chan_Sip Registry > State show as No Authentication.
All my servers are hosted on Vultr using Chan_Sip for the trunk settings. Below are my settings and I am wondering should NAT be set to NO if hosted on Vultr? Thanks
canreinvite=nonat
nat=yes
context=from-trunk
host=chicago2.voip.ms
username=Username
fromuser=Username
secret=Secret
type=peer
disallow=all
allow=ulaw
trustrpid=yes
sendrpid=yes
insecure=invite
qualify=yes -
I noticed this on one of the client's systems. Not sure why voip.ms is not accepting the credentials. I went in and opened my trunk settings, clicked submit, and apply settings and it reconnected.

I was having similar issues with this the week of 04/22/2020, with the chicago3.voip.ms server. This was shortly after they added new servers in Chicago. I switched everything to chicago7.voip.ms and have had no issues since.

@Skratch08 - Thanks for the response. I typically use Chicago2 for all my installs so that would make sense if that particular server address was having issues. I'll try a different one and see if there is any difference.
Thanks again!

I too had issues about a month ago. I have multiple connections from a single FreePBX to vultr all IP based both on chicago2 - as JB explained it to me - my issue was likely related to two connections both going IP auth, stuff was getting confused - though I don't know why it would have been all of a sudden after 3 years, it's likely whatever issue caused your problems, is likely related to mine.
though my problems have gone away completely since splitting between two different chicago servers. -
I ended up moving a couple of the systems to Chicago7. So far so good. Never really noticed that voip.ms has a little icon next to certain locations as recommended. Not sure if those are their less populated systems.

They have had that for a long time. I assume it helps with load balancing.

I have noticed that you guys all seem to be using Skyetel now. Does that mean you jumped ship from voip.ms or do you guys use it as a failover?

We use Skyetel for US/Canada and voip.ms for other countries.

I thought it was just me. I've had the exact same issue with the "wrong password" entry in the log when I know this not to be true. If I reload the console it reconnects. Voip.ms told me to connect to a different server but that just feels like they're avoiding having to solve the issue. It happens every few days.

In order to try and prove them wrong, you need to get a pcap of this when it happens.

Chicago7 had some odd static issue going on mid afternoon. Checked 3 of the clients I have pointing to it and all had the same problem. I was about to move to a different server again and then it cleared up. Guess the only positive thing is they didn’t disconnect

Skyetel offers some pretty awesome pricing, sadly it's hidden behind the " " wall. I don't know what to call it.
If you get an account, and then message @Skyetel here, they will move you to the good rates. I'm not sure how normal customers get to the good rates - I'm sure it was posted here before, just don't recall. -

They do not. The special rates are only for those who can demonstrate in the relationship that they have the support infrastructure to not be a burden. A "normal" needs far more support, and therefore must pay for it because they lack the ability to demonstrate a reason to get a discount. Normal rates are for normal people for a reason.

Well, OK - finally a good explanation as to why you caved to them hiding these good prices.
Thanks.

Perhaps it stated - but definitely not in a "way" that was clear to me.
-
@JaredBusch Thanks for the hint. I'll try to set that up.
