@black3dynamite plus OS. That's a huge disadvantage to building yourself, assuming that gamers want Windows. You have to pay for that extra.
You're always paying extra for it.
you pay less with pre-built machines. They get it at lower cost.

Large OEMs get Windows for closer to $30 or $40 instead of $100 that end users pay. They get massive volume discounts both because of the massive volume, but also to encourage them to not make Linux based devices, which otherwise they would.

@G-I-Jones yeah it's a little tight, but that site does have some decent options for around my price

It's tight, but we got a great one three months ago for $620. So it can be done. Mine lacked the SSD, but we will add that later.
-
@scottalanmiller that's good to hear, I can't spend too much but I still want something that performs well y'know
-
@scottalanmiller do I need to be picky about a mouse and keyboard?

Only if you play lots of mouse/keyboard games. I would be more picky about a controller.
-
@RojoLoco ahhh okay that makes sense.
-
@Supreme_Overlord since the will probably be used for Steam games, check out the Steam controller. I got one (2nd one is a regular xbox wireless) and it has been pretty good. And it can go wired or wireless.
-
@RojoLoco Okay sweet! I'll check those out

Exactly. That's the beauty of the Steam store wish list - they email you when your stuff is on sale.

I use a Steam Controller for nearly everything. All depends on your gaming desires and style.

What kind of CPU cooler is best? Are there certain specs we have to make sure it has?

What do we do now? The Steam controller is what made SO many games actually usable! Dammit. That was a literal game changer.

Yep they had a blow out sale in November. Then they announced they were clearing stock and cancelling un-shipped orders. There was rumor about a V2 coming out but nothing has materialized yet.

That's SO sad. REALLY sucks. We use those for absolutely everything.
