Good Specs to Build a Gaming PC (asking for a friend)

Just so happens that in the near future I also will be looking. However, I’m looking more at a laptop as I likely will be more mobile

I'm a BIG fan of using AMD Ryzen procs for gaming over Intel. I switched recently and I'm so much happier.
-
@scottalanmiller what's the difference between AMD and Intel??

Memory (how much?)
I think 16GB is almost always what makes sense.

Price, performance, support
Biggest thing that I've seen is Intel bakes in a software GPU into their Core chips and it seems to cause no end of issues.

I'm more of a gaming console user. But when it comes to building a gaming computer, I was told to for a good motherboard first. But if I was going to build a gaming computer, I would whether just buy something like HP OMEN or ASUS ROG Desktop.
I got an amazing deal on a Dell gaming machine just before Christmas for like $620.

@scottalanmiller ahhh okay that's good to know!

Asus RoG is hard to beat. But we have a customer using HP and what they got was really nice.

Graphics Card
I switched from Nvidia to AMD recently. Overall, I'm liking the Radeon experience better. Fewer support issues. But Nvidia is excellent, as well.

Storage (is it better to run a raid?)
Not really.
-
@scottalanmiller okay, didn't know if that would help with being able to perform faster. What size SSD would be good then?

You can get a 1TB one cheap, then there will be plenty of storage for all the games.
-
@RojoLoco sweet!

Not really, lol, I mean about the storage. I'm looking at my 1TB ssd and asking myself how the hell I managed to nearly fill it. . .

Full size Blu Ray rips? Too much pr0n?

Do they have anything at all to reuse? Case, power supply, SSD? Because sometimes you can get significantly more powerful components when you can save a few hundred on stuff like that.

Who needs a computer case? Just pizza-box that sucker and move on.

Really depends on the gamer. My game library takes about 3TB.

Goes SO fast with games. When you get games that are 50GB each, it doesn't take many to use a lot of space really quickly.
