Looking for free RMM kind, or at least with H/W and S/W inventory software with agent.

MC alone does an awful lot. It basically does your inventory.
MC's development pace also makes it very attractive to use as part of your toolset.

Not to be mean to MC - but it's so far behind other paid products, if development was super rapid - no one would care about it.

Um, that's weird. We are moving to it because it is so far ahead of other products. It's got the best MSP workflows we've used yet. It kicks the crap out of ScreenConnect in general use, for example. I only use SC as a fall back for legacy customers not yet migrated. I do all my work twice as fast in MC.
What the heck have you used that's working as well? I know you use SC sometimes, that specifically I've found to be slow and cumbersome by comparison. We have both, side by side, and SC has a few features that we like better (built in scripts) but those are rarely used. For actual "use them every few minute" features, MC is leaps and bounds ahead of just about everyone.
-
The biggest deal for us with MC are these two features...
- No license limits. All staff get unlimited capacity.
- Speed. It dramatically cuts the time to use the product. Everything from login, to finding the machine, to accessing it are fractionally as cumbersome as anything else.
It just makes our people more efficient. With SC we are constantly waiting on things and losing time. And we are constantly having to deal with running out of licenses. Which sure, we could just throw money at it, but SC has been glitchy and unreliable (in minor ways, not complaining) to a point where investing more in something inferior makes no sense when the better product is free and deployed.
The only thing we have been missing for months to drop SC we got this past weekend. So literally we are starting a full on SC and TV migration to MC today. Both are nice and do things well and have some nice features, but overall, neither is working on par with MC for our MSP/ITSP use cases.
SC and TV are both way, way better focused on use cases for individual users doing remote work, like an RDP replacement. But that's not something IT would use, that's for end users.

I use both and I completely disagree with this statement.
It works well, but it certainly has a ways to go to "kick the crap out of" it.

Not sure which features you use, but for me what makes it so much better are these factors...
- Speed to get to a desktop.
- Speed to move between desktops (lots of tabs, tons of machines working at once).
- Removed licensing issues.
- Easy file transfers and edits.
- More robust command line.
Those factors mean I cut my support time by quite a bit. It just frees up the team.
SC has lots of better features, it can do window based sessions (not a tab), it has built in scrips, things like that. But none of those features for me come close to offsetting the amount of extra work that I can do in MC. We have both running and sometimes we do things in both and the "I'm done, how much longer for you" for people using MC is pretty dramatic. Easily half or less of the time spent for the meta tasks of connecting and whatnot.

I'm going to have to try this out. I'm a bit skeptical though, SC is extremely fast for us. With its command line, backstage, and toolbox, we rarely gui to the end user's desktop anymore....

yeah, that stuff is good. but we have most of that with MC too. The more robust CLI is great that we can just fire up either CMD or PowerShell and be interactive. So much faster than SC's CLI, so much more capable.

How is this any different than SC? One can just use backstage to gain either powershell or CMD.
The only benefit I see to MC is that you can run either as the currently logged in user (though don't have much of a need of that myself). -
