But I would have to set up a unifi controller for my ap to be used on my Aloha Network as wireless - For tablets.. Right ?
Your Unifi AP? Yes, it needs a controller. CAN be a controller on your phone.

The AP only needs a controller to be setup, you can turn it off after the AP is configured if you don't need any logging etc.

I shouldn't need logging.

so I should probably start working on getting a controller set up tonight and going from there.
Question; should this be set up on my Server for the site, or my phone/laptop ?
does it matter though? it's not going with the site this is just for staging. -

does it matter though? it's not going with the site this is just for staging.Doesn't matter, so long as the AP is setup to work with the sites router. Once the AP is setup, it keeps that configuration. You'd use the controller to update the AP, wireless settings, logs, device blocking etc.

I'm going to be using it in house for staging Tablets for this install. -

I'm going to be using it in house for staging Tablets for this install. So you are connecting these tablets to a specific Wireless network, and that's all? Then yeah, just setup a different WiFi network with your existing controller, connect the tablets to that network.

yes, basically..
I'll probably just setup a new controller and use my AP to stage tablets from here on out ; -

does it matter though? it's not going with the site this is just for staging. Most of us use a cloud controller so that it can connect from literally anywhere (with Internet.)

but for my purpose that wouldn't help me.
I only need it to get my tablets set up and connected to the network.
I think that cloud controller would be great if I was trying to set up a full site internet ; however just to get 15 tablets set up I should be fine with a controller on my laptop.. Right? -
@WrCombs To ask, why do you have to setup tablets with a WiFi connection? Is there something that has to be done with these on that specific SSID?
-
@WrCombs said in What Are You Doing Right Now:

Just generally simpler.

What? The controller isn't involved in that.

I don't understand your question.

It is if he needs to setup a new SSID so the end user (client) doesn't have to connect to it.

Why are you needing to create a new SSID (wireless network) to setup these tablets?

Not sure why "more work to get less" would ever be beneficial. How you are using it... full site internet or setting up tablets is so wholly unrelated that I'm sure you are picturing what a Unifi controller is all wrong and confused as to what an AP does. But it's so confusing that I can't tell what you are picturing. but your use cases aren't part of any equation about where you host the controller.

You just said here;Yes, Unifi AP, which needs a controller to be set up. So nothing related to the factors you are mentioning.
