I have a Plantronics Voyager Legend but I am unable to charge it. I've tried wall charging and connecting to the computer. The computer senses when I plug and unplug it and the blue light comes on on the battery pack but the device itself will never power on. I tried doing a firmware update but since it can't turn I am guessing that that is the problem - the computer will wake from sleep if I take the headset off of the charger, but the computer won't recognize that it is plugged in so the firmware updater doesn't allow me to do anything.

      What do I try next?

        1. Disconnect the headset and make sure it is off. Get a tooth brush and clean the contacts (they get lint and crud in them very easily).
        2. While the headset is still off hold the volume switch, the answer button and the mute button all together for a few seconds.
        3. When the LED flashes blue you should be fine.

Also always make sure the headset is in the off position when plugging it in to charge.
Clean the contacts every once in awhile too.

But there is no power. Light will never flash blue as it can't register the buttons without some battery life 😞

The case LED does flash blue. But the headset is still dead as a door nail.

The cleaned the contacts first thing and the computer knows that it is plugged in but can't talk to it. So the contacts are good.

How old is it, could the batteries be bad?

@Dashrender not that old and held a seven hour charge just before not charging at all.

maybe one of your babies played with it? get a volt meter and check the contacts. maybe you could find a voltage readout to test for a circuit problem or battery charge.

Trick I learned on the Plantronics forums:

Set the headset, turned on, on a metal surface for an hour or so. It will reset the smart sensors. After that, try charging it again. If that doesn't work, based on everything, the headset is dead. Sorry.

                          Nope, wasn't in the house.

I've got the same problem. I love the legend, but I've had a terrible time with charging. It works for a while then stops, so I buy another charging cable, and THAT works for a while. I've tried cleaning the contacts with alcohol, and it doesn't help.

This has to be one of he worst designs in a charging cable that I've ever seen.

There was a firmware update fix in v106 on the Legend that fixed charging from any Windows 8.1 machine. Yes, I know it's sad I know that off the top of my head. But you're having issues charging from other sources too?

What OS are you using, and what are you charging it with? Cable or the weighted dock? Shouldn't matter, as they are basically the same thing but just curious. Have you run MyHeadset Updater on it to flash the latest firmware?

Can't update the firmware when it breaks like this, though.

Since the device can't charge, connect or be detected, this does nothing.

Bring it with you when you come up here and let's see if I can't get it to reset. Mine was causing issues and I eventually got it to work.

@minion-queen I just tried this, and it works. At least the blue light came on. When I plugged it in, the red light flashed a couple times, and now the blue light flashes every so often, so I assume it's charging.
I'd sent one of these back to the company, and the replacement had the same issue. When I sent it back, they sent me two, and they both work. Yesterday I was saddened to see that the one I'd been using wouldn't charge, but at least I had the other one. Then I questioned their lifespan; if they'd sent me a dead one as a replacement, then two others just to be sure, their lifespan must be short. But after trying your method, I am once again hopeful. Thanks. I'm still keeping both of them.
