This is the native office application in Deepin, so we see it fairly often. It seems pretty decent, but we normally remove it and replace with LibreOffice because we are an ODT native format company. But WPS, along with OnlyOffice, seem like really solid options.

      ODT? OnlyOffice?
I have some Binging to do. No...no Googling still sounds better. I'll have to Bing that! ok, ok that's better. Lol

ODT, the short name for the Open Document format as pioneered by OpenOffice / LibreOffice.

OnlyOffice, who is active here in ML, is more of a direct MS Office competitor. OnlyOffice and LibreOffice are the two that integrate into NextCloud for live, online, shared editing. On Linux, LibreOffice is the strongest ODT tool set. OnlyOffice is probably the strongest MS Office files editor. And WPS is the up and comer, but looking pretty good, but is not open source. The old K Office suite still exists, to some degree, as Calligra and is ODT native and okay.

Those four make up the Linux office suite landscape.

Wow! Thank you for the explanation, extremely helpful

@RojoLoco I've divorced Google completely. OH except my Pixel XL 2, but that's a money issue.

@RojoLoco Yeah I was using that for a while, actually I have the plugin active on this very machine now (disabled for this site, as is uBlock Origin).
But I actually find Bing to work very well lol. HOWEVER, there was a situation where I was desperately searching for an answer to a...Web Administration script question I was working on, I turned to Google and actually found an answer. Of course I ended up not using the info from that site, but still lol.

That's right ONLYOFFICE uses OOXML (docx, xlsx, pptx) as core formats and is aimed at replacing MS Office. We work with ODF using conversion.

I need to give this a try to see if it could provide a drop in replacement for Office 2016... The last time I tried, OpenOffice - I think - it messed with formatting so badly that management said it wasn't worth the headache of fixing all their files to look good in another product.

OpenOffice was a LONG time ago, LibreOffice split off and has been the leader in that space since 2010. That's basically a decade. LibreOffice for many years has been way, way better at formatting MS Office documents. Still not perfect, but nothing like it used to be in the OpenOffice era.

But being ODT native, using it for MS Office files presents natural challenges. OnlyOffice would be the obvious choice to test out. I'd be very interested to hear how it goes.

I used to set up WPS for clients who were used to the ribbon interface because LibreOffice didn't have one. I haven't used it for a long time but it seemed to work fine.
