Registry: setting permissions
-
In all the years, I'd not seen software that not only needed but REQUIRED setting permissions in the registry.
Has this ever come up before?
-
Sure, if the software was expecting to be run as an admin, but is being run as a regular user
-
It would be equivalent with having to give write permissions for Users to a folder in Program Files. Basically a work around to make something work that's not completely engineered for non-privileged user use.

Yes I have seen this - it was super SUPER crappy software..

When does needed != required?
-
Yes, old versions of MS Dynamics. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

One of the applications is Client Work Manager, from Unisys. One document I find is from 2001-
So seriously ancient. And a internally sourced application to access it.

Most software need access to the registry one form or another in Windows so I have seen plenty of them.
