Indicator that someone is typing a post

I never noticed the little keyboard next to a persons name before.
Do I assume correctly that it means someone is typing a message?

It is very handy. I am never sure how to tell which person it is that is supposed to be doing it and often wonder if maybe it is keyboard activity but not necessarily about to show up in the thread as often it does not seem to do so.

It Is to the right of the person typing. Occasionally from iOS devices it gets stuck typing for a bit even after I post though..
