Daisy Chain Ubiquiti AC Pros?
-
I'm looking at doing a wireless project for a group of cottages. Due to the layout, running a homerun cable to each AP isn't practical. To keep the costs down, I was thinking about doing this in each cottage:
Ubiquiti ETH-SP-G2 Surge Suppressor/Protector
PoE injector
UAP-AC-PRO
Ubiquiti ETH-SP-G2 Surge Suppressor/Protector
and on to the next cottage. This will save on the expense of a switch in each cottage. It will also save on the expense of running home runs. Does anyone see a problem with this? The longest chain would be 3 in a row.

Doesn't the second port on these AP's act as a bridge only?
-
This sounds like a horrible solution. There are better solutions for things like this that are designed for this.
-
Here's some more detail on this.
You'll need a PoE injector for every AP.
PoE, AP > Bridge >Ethernet run > PoE, AP > Bridge >Ethernet run > PoE, AP > Bridge >Ethernet run > PoE, AP
Etc

The correct solution here is likely a PtMP solution like this
https://help.ubnt.com/hc/en-us/articles/205197750-airMAX-Which-product-should-I-use-#3
UniFi is not designed for this purpose. Could you shoehorn it? Sure. But it is not the design.

So you're thinking have a central unit that services each of the cottages, rather than an AP per cottage.

If I understand @JaredBusch correctly, he is thinking more like a WISP solution where you put a multi point antenna on a mast and then at each cottage have a rocket mounted outside to link with the multi point and then a AC on the inside of the cottage. That was a thought too, but there are trees all over and that adds a lot of gear, which drives up the cost.

I'm a little confused by this. Are you planning to run a network wire through the cottages and not doing a single run for each cottage? Seems silly compared to doing Point to Multipoint wireless like @JaredBusch already gave you a link to.
TLDNR: All the wires or no wires, no in between there is.

Well, there are wires to the mast or high point where the equipment would be centrally located. But due to the tree coverage he'd be limited to the "900MHz, Better tolerance for trees and small obstacles"
Which may not even be allowed in the area.

Here is an image. The drawing is wildy not to scale. From the Main House to Birch is about 600', thus the multi mode fiber. From Lakeshore 1,2,3 to Lakeview is 115'.

@Mike-Davis at AP6 are you planning to have a switch there? You said there would only be 3 AP's for the longest chain, but that's 5.
-
AP 12 is just floating out there on the lake, which would mean at least a second 3 link chain.

Yes, switch at AP 6, so 7 and 8 would daisy chain to 9. I would probably be possible to run straight from the Main House to 7 and then go from 7 back to 6 and 5.

12 is just the legend. Sorry, should have labeled that. Used GreenShot for my napkin sketch.

Yes, that sounds like a better solution if you can do it.

Seems like it wouldn't be difficult to setup a secure location outside of cabin Maple, or cabin Spruce and then home run everything there... you're pretty much already running the conduit. Then run a fiber (or Cat6e if the distance isn't that large) back to the main office. Otherwise treating this as a WISP and each cabin as a subscriber would be the best solution.
-
@Mike-Davis -- What makes the home run not practical?
-
I still only count 11 AP's @Mike-Davis. Your legend is stating 12. Where would the last one be?

I think 12 is just a reference to denote the symbol for the APs. It's not the actual number.
