I don't understand how people get hired in the fist place, for a computer job, if they can't understand how to use a computer.
They can learn, I mean, they learned to do what it is they do... they should keep up with the tool used to do the work.
Trust me. You guys are preaching to the choir here. I even make slight comments, while laughing "with" them, after they make such statements, "so basically we should hire a carpenter who doesn't know how to use a hammer?"
To give my users a minuscule amount of credit, they are basically in a single application for 95% of their job and they learn that software inside and out.
So they can't be bothered to learn left click from right click??? Sounds like a bunch of morons who should have flunked kindergarten. I had that user base many times in the past, and I managed to get out without murdering anyone. Run away screaming and find greener pastures. Life is too fucking short to make excuses for fucktards. You deserve better users. Go find them elsewhere.
I would love nothing more but I live with the hand I'm dealt, give them the tools they need to get their work done and then try to avoid them.

My company started using email in 2011. They've had computers since the mid 80's (at least in engineering), but none of them had internet access until around then too.

4 years ago, I pulled out 10mb switches, or they may have been hubs, not sure.

I disagree with you guys. Win10 just contains a great deal of complexity just to start whatever application you want - where the real work gets done. I can't see that the OS has become better from a user point of view compared to win7, XP, 2000, 95 or 3.0. It's not the users fault.
Microsoft put too much crap in the OS that should not be there and not enough of what should have been there. But Microsoft stocks are good so I like them anyway
-
For tweaking there is as always a bunch of services that you can set to "disable". Question is if it's worth the effort. If you run an enterprise like environment where you control all software and have many stations it might be.
SSD is a must but that has been the case for the last 10 years.

While I appreciate all the shitting on users, they deserve it, itβs totally derailed the purpose of this thread.

You're crazy. They still use a desktop shortcut or start menu shortcut, same since XP. Big ass squares on the right side of the start menu in Win10 vs small links on the left in Win7. 10 is way easier, or even on the task bar, same as its been since XP.

My fault. Sorry
Honestly though, Windows 10 runs pretty well out of the box with 8gb ram and an SSD.
I do, however, run a "Windows 10 cleanup" script after first boot to get rid of all the tiles for games and fluff applications and to limit telemetry but, otherwise, leave it well enough alone. This is a neat little tool though if you want to get into the fine-grained stuff.

Spybot has a tool just for blocking telemetry stuff called Anti Beacon. I just set it it "full" and leave it be. Portable version available too.
