Kid's GPS watch
-
I was wondering if any of you have looked into something like this. We need something that will track the location of one of our kids, and do it well. The other things are only good insofar as they encourage her to keep it on, but are otherwise just a bonus. Cost isn't a huge issue, but needs to be reasonable (having a foundation help pay for it).

Never looked into this before.
Obviously the Apple Watch Series 3 has cellular in it now. Requires the iPhone for setup and a few things, but GPS and limited functions work direct from the watch.
No idea on anything else

I think Samsung has cellular in their latest watch, too. But haven't tried it.

A couple of things that affect selection for me is that it needs to be nearly indestructible, and it needs be independent of a cell phone for standard use. Here is one of the ones I'm looking at: http://www.doki.com/.

We just use their phones.
Much like oxygen, our kids would die without constant touching of their phones, so we are assured they will always have them.

Unfortunately/fortunately a phone would not be a good idea in this case. Her needs and abilities have limited our options to something she will be wearing.

These look pretty cool.

That is scary that a company would engage in that level of negligence. Not surprising, but scary.

Just implant gps in their skull like in Total Recall
-
@momurda that's actually an 1830s era booger extractor.

Maybe Angel Sense it looks like they are aiming at exactly what you need. https://www.angelsense.com/protect/gps-tracking-for-kids-n/?tap_a=14876-c779a9&tap_s=117718-aa3976&utm_source=affiliate&utm_medium=danielbagwell1

Anyone seen that Black Mirror episode "Arkangel"? Just saying...
-

That is a decent option. Not sure about the monthly pricing, but they're aiming at my market.

@kelly You should look into some of the healthcare solutions they use for patients who have dementia IMO. Might find something there

Indeed they do. Doesn't require a phone at all.

I'm waiting for a fourth gen one before I consider getting one.

I have the Gen 2 (without the integrated dial capability - needs the phone to use) and I've used it to receive calls before but not a real fan. Too "Inspector Gadget" for me and not loud enough, although that could be because I'm getting old lol. Otherwise the thing is awesome at everything else, even tracking my heart condition.
