I know there are more than a few heat mapping softwares,..but looking of a few, I wanted to see what is being used on Linux.

I would rather use something OpenSource.. I try to stay away from having to purchase any software when OpenSource manages to satisfy all the needs I have come across in the last dozen years.

Not an easy tool to find.

I'm interested in this too, as I really need to be more productive (if that's the word) or maybe strategic in the placing of my AP's

This is the only thing I've found a year back or so. Never actually used it but could be worth a try.

Ekahau is one of the best heatmappers I've ever used; but it is only for Windows not Linux.

So that removes it from your list.

I wonder if there is any chance that Wine would work.

I've always used WiFi Analyizer on a phone/tablet if I needed to survey a location. That said, a thread on linuxquestions.com led me to: https://alternativeto.net/software/inssider/?platform=linux#. Looks like some options at least, don't really know if they're decent.
