The security of WordPress completely depends on the website owner.

People seem to believe the myth that WordPress is very insecure because they hear about people's WP sites being hacked.

The truth is, WordPress is very secure. The problem, is that these sites get hacked because they are very outdated, use outdated or bad plugins, outdated themes, have no protections like WordFence, or other obvious issues that aren't the fault of WP.

I and millions of others have public WordPress sites up which have never been hacked. There are hundreds or thousands of tries daily, but none succeed. Why? Read the article.

WordPress is open source, has tons of developers world wide, and when there is an internal security vulnerability, it gets fixed fast.

This is really true of all software.

  • It's like Windows. Windows is super secure. Maybe not RHEL secure, but really close. Effectively the same. But the Windows world is full of people who do insecure things and give the platform a bad name.
