Today's Random Discussion Point: Are Wigs Just Hairy Hats?

 @dustinb3403 said in Today's Random Discussion Point: Are Wigs Just Hairy Hats?: No, I'm saying hats have some form of protection. A baseball cap can help to protect your eyes from sunlight. No wig is designed with protection in mind. They are designed as a fashion piece. If this were a wig it could protect your eyes, and could be a squishy top providing better protection than nothing at all...

 @bnrstnr . . . ok but that isn't a wig now is it. . .

  He actually paid for somebody to do that to his hair?

 I propose that a hat is just a hairless wig. :face_with_stuck-out_tongue_closed_eyes:

 Wig or hat? ...or perhaps this one is the top of Guy Fieri's head?

By this definition, sunglasses could also be labeled as a wig.

 @rojoloco said in Today's Random Discussion Point: Are Wigs Just Hairy Hats?: Wig or hat? Hat. It's a functional accessory first with the goal of being fucking stupid.

By this definition, sunglasses could also be labeled as a wig. Sunglasses by design are to protect ones eyes from the sun. . . hence any fashion made after the initial creation is purely an adaptation of the function of what the base object is doing.

A wig can and does provide the same "protection" as a hat. Consider a skull cap or simple bob, what protection to they afford that a wig does not? Ok. . . well a hardhat keeps your skull from being crushed by falling debris. Can a wig do the same? But can a baseball cap? Are you saying that baseball hats are not hats because they don't protect you from falling debris? No, I'm saying hats have some form of protection. A baseball cap can help to protect your eyes from sunlight. No wig is designed with protection in mind. They are designed as a fashion piece. But what I'm saying is that wigs have both pressure and sun protection, too.

 So, a visor blocks the sun from your eyes, but is not a hat, it doesn't cover your head. The covering you head portion is what makes something a hat, and a wig. The blocking the sun portion could be a visor or a roof.

Therefore, negating a roof or tree as a hat/wig.

 @scottalanmiller said in Today's Random Discussion Point: Are Wigs Just Hairy Hats?: I think that wigs are simply a category of hat. What do you think? I'd like to take it a step further and say a wig IS a hat. Your reasons for wearing them may be different, but that doesn't change what it is.
