Also, did anyone ever figure out if O365 is still $4 per month or if the only option is now the $5 bundle?? I'm talking bare minimum hosted Exchange.
Of course it is, I gave you the link yesterday.
https://products.office.com/en-us/exchange/exchange-onlineYeah I know about that but there was also question weather MS is actually still selling that... Scott linked me to Minion Queen from NTG who quoted me the $5 price because they didnt know about the $4 one..
She definitely knows about the $4 price, she sells it all of the time.
I asked her about the $4 price yesterday after she gave me the initial quote and she told me that they removed the $4 option. Then I showed her the link to the MS page offering it for $4 and then she said she was going to reach out to her account manager about it.
It's removed from the partner options, yes. Definitely still exists. MS Account Reps are notoriously bad
So does that mean that MS Partners now can't help set that up?? And what's this about MS Account reps? Who's the rep here?
The rep is who @Minion-Queen has to talk to to find out why the email option is not showing up in the portal. We don't know if MS has taken this away from partners, MS breaks things so often, there is no way to know what is intentional and what is just broken.
Well, let's hope it's just broken.. but considering that MS doesn't publish it along side O365, I would not be surprised if MS is trying everything they can to kill it as a stand alone option.
Time for more Zimbra!

You're users shouldn't notice any difference if they are using Outlook.
They can use Outlook with Zimbra??
Of course, Outlook is a generic email client. It works with any email system. And pretty much any email system offers specific Outlook compatibility for broader features than email. I don't know any commercial email system that is not bidirectionally supported with Outlook - meaning that Outlook doesn't talk its native language and that they don't at least offer the ability to talk Outlook's native language (as if they were Exchange.)

Yes, you can use the Open Source with Outlook as IMAP or POP3. For ActiveSync you will integrate with ZPUSH.
For native Outlook integration MAPI, you will need to use the netwok edition.

We use IMAP with Zimbra because we are explicitly a zero Outlook shop.

Zimbra has its own client but web clients are ideal for email.

@dave247 said in question about setting up a new domain controller:
So why again not go with the simple simplicity of a $4 or $5 per month per user O365 email-only option? I'm thinking that, plus a redundant simple internet connection, even if only good enough for email use, woudl be cheaper and more beneficial to the company than do-it-yourself on-prem exchange and all the crap that includes.

I got a quote from CDW for O365 for Exchange only (just for S&G) and for 75 users, it came to $10,800/year. You guys weren't kidding...
