Can I use Sodium to monitor VPS?

  • I have two linodes and installed Sodium on both units. The did an initial check in but nothing since Dec 13/14. Is that something with Linode not allowing them to check in?

  • @wls-itguy Firewall Rules?

  • @aaronstuder Could be, I'll check. But why would it check in for a few times and then stop? Wouldn't the firewall rules keep it from checking in at all?

  • VPS are transparent on a network. So anything like this will work there the same as if it is not a VPS.

I'm curious to know they checked in but haven't been seen since Dec 13/14 then.

  • Just checked my two Linode hosts and they haven't checked in since 3/7 both around 1:30p

and they haven't checked in since 3/7 both around 1:30p

Interesting, I know there was an issue before but now it should work.

    Both are Debian 9

  • Is the salt-minion Process running?

I could be blind but I don't see it.

  • Good command to make that easier...

    ps aux | grep salt

  • Try....

    systemctl start salt-minion

    Try....

    systemctl start salt-minion

Come on. It can't be that simple ;P

    It’s Linux. Often that simple.

  • You may also want to make sure it starts at boot...

    systemctl enable salt-minion

  • We should know for sure if it worked in nine minutes.

  • Okay. Hmmm.

    First what does /etc/salt/minion contain?

My guess is an update was run and blew away the config. Some OSes mess with it relentlessly.

If this is the Debian update bug, we are tackling it with this command. This is already built into newer installers because this bug is so broad.

  • On those that are not working, what is the output of...

    systemctl status salt-minion
