How to run JNLP files on Fedora Cinnamon with Firefox
-
A clean install of Fedora 27 with the Cinnamon desktop does not include the javasdk component IcedTea. In order to execute
jnlp
files (in my case specifically for ScreenConnect), you needicedtea-web
installed.Installing it is simple
dnf -y install icedtea-web

How do I get it to auto open the .jnlp when it's from my domain? (vs. save and run)

That depends on your browser. It is not possible with Chrome. Google has chosen to disable that option.

A key reason that I stick to the Firefox default. That option is something I use every few minutes!

Pretty much the main reason I choose Firefox over Chrome.

I'm running chrome! Ok, that makes sense.

Not the default. Introducing problems by trying to work around the native system. Start with Fedora, alter only when necessary, not just on a whim while trying to learn the system. This isn't Windows, don't fight it, it's not out to cripple you.

In Chrome, selecting "Always Open Files of This Type" doesn't work?

You are not allowed to select that for JNLP files in Chrome.
