Fax: Sangoma FAXstation

Anyone using this service?
Can you comment on how it has been, what you like or don't like? -
LOL - if that video is correct at all, this is not a fax over IP solution at all!
It's fax to a local gatway, that then transmits that fax to a device that has some connection to a PSTN network and then faxes it again. This means it literally takes twice as long to fax.
As for reliability - is it really more reliable? who knows. Perhaps the equipment the provider is using it less reliable in general than the machine you are using.
If the box isn't free, and the service costs more than $35/month, it's way more expensive than you just buying your own PSTN connection and connecting your fax machine to it. -

Yeah, reading the description, their answer to providing a FoIP service is to not have any FoIP at all. I can't figure out where any IP happens. This is just a legacy fax system, I think.
-
It seems to require that you use legacy fax machines. This is insanely dumb.

Jeez, did you guys even bother to read anything?
How about reading the datasheet? Here https://www.sangoma.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/FAXStation.pdf
Look at Advanced Features, Manage Faxes Online -

Look at Advanced Features, Manage Faxes OnlineI only watched the video.

We did, their website was pretty clear that there was no FoIP.

Agreed, there is no FoIP, there is faxing via IP, but it's definitely not FoIP.
-
The FAXStation appliance comes pre-provisioned and
pre-programmed–no need to open rewalls, port forward
or set up proxies. They can't know this. My firewall could be setup to block all outbound traffic I don't specifically allow. Huge assumption here.

Look at Advanced Features, Manage Faxes OnlineManaging online is not FoIP. Nowhere, anywhere, in that paper can I find anything that says that faxes themselves go online, only the management interface. Everything about the tech says that it is traditional faxing without Internet. It's non-FoIP devices connected to non-IP phone lines. It's just... fax.

Is there? I didn't see any option to Fax via IP. It uses terms like "use your old phone lines" and "keep your old fax machines" but never mentions any place where FoIP gear or communications happens.

It wouldn't talk to your firewall, it doesn't appear to be a networked device. It needs POTS lines, from what I can tell.

Maybe you should try reading the data sheets

It's old school faxing with a twist.
The local machine send a fax to a local device. that device then sends the "fax" (really it's likely just a TIFF or PDF) via SSL to some other box somewhere on the internet. That box has a PSTN connection and calls the remote fax machine. The fax itself is never going over IP.

Where does it say anything about needing POTS? Again, read the data sheets!!

I did. If you see something on there that we don't, what is it?

OK I'll ask, did you watch the video? It showed how data goes over the internet via a SSL connection.

I see no mention of POTS:
