ARM RISC processors for the datacenter are anything but dead. Qualcomm just released its powerful 40, 46, and 48 core ARM RISC Falkor-based CPUs. This 10nm process CPU is powerful and uses six channel DD4 memory with up to 60MB L3 cache. Performance comparisons are not yet available, but this ARMv8 system is one serious server contender. Making it trivially easy to hit 96 physical cores in a single 1U server, many application hosting deployments have been looking forward to this release.

Wow, I can't wait until they have benchmark comparisons. Definitely interesting. I wonder how they compare to good GPUs?

Workload will be CPU based, so not well. This is going up against Xeons and EPYC.

That's pretty impressive. I wonder how long before usable gear is available on the street. And what prices are going to be like.

Initial performance tests look good, and it was Cloudflare that got some in for testing.

The reviewers don't know what cores are. That's not a good sign.

Amazing that they did one CPU vs. two CPU. The degree of crushing Intel there is pretty extreme.

@scottalanmiller And its not even the top of the line Centriq in the benchmark either.

                                Right, only the midline!

I hope some big names, like SuperMicro, take this seriously and get something in our hands soon. This would be perfect for two socket 1U servers or some tiny blade units (those SM deals with four blades in a 2U kind of thing.)
