This sounds concerning, I don't know if they'll be able to stop at "Just hardware"

And then apple tries to claim that all speakers with silicone bases would do the same... Face it, your new product fucks up people's nice furniture. Own your mistake and fix it.

Bringing back what reminds me of the old 3.5" full-height form factor in 2.5" size this time. I wonder how many servers will have drive basis tall enough for these? Hopefully not all custom build servers.

Does seem pretty mad, he wasn't using cracked copies or using dodgy keys, seems completely waste of court time and waste of money, especially when there a lot more things to worry about in the U.S....

Yup, he did zero damage and just did something that the vendor was supposed to do instead. It's not that the act wasn't allowed, but there is some grey area as to whether he was allowed to do it or not. Basically, the court screwed the pooch here and clearly the judge doesn't understand the case.

The guy used recovery media that is licensed to the individual NEW pc only. If you lose the disc that was shipped with the PC you need to go back to the original retailer and ask for a replacement.
It's a weird case for sure but the licensing for the media is pretty straight forward. Provided with sale of new pc only

Yes, it's not that he's in the wrong or not, he was wrong. It's that he did something of zero damage. There is no victim, no loss.

Had he downloaded the file and made the disks for each person as they got the PCs, it would have been fine. It's because he was wearing his refurb hat instead of his IT hat that it was a problem. IT does this exact task every day without a problem. It's a crime only of perspective.

Design isn't my strong suit. I've been thinking about a decent dashboard to show the health of our infrastructure for our CIO (and maybe put it in the public somewhere?) but just can't really get the look right. May try and do Grafana for that but it's a very low priority.
