Apple shares its vision for macOS 10.15 Catalina: Cross-platform apps are key
The future of macOS is in iOS—but there's other new stuff to be excited about, too.
The next major operating system update for Apple's Mac computers will bring new apps, a handful of quality life improvements, and, most importantly, a far-reaching initiative to (at least partially) unify the app-development process across devices running iOS and macOS. -

Not really... MS tried (continues to try, though I think they are finally about to give up on it) their "modern" apps platform. This wasn't apps designed for Windows Mobile that could also run on Windows desktop - it was still mostly desktop only... with some smattering of crossover here and there - as I understood it.

For MS they were trying to unify to disparate platforms. For Apple, it's process unification. Both platforms are already pretty close and ru the same code.
