I need quite a bit of RAM, but little else, really. So pretty far from a portable desktop.
Oh right. Just saying in general.
What do you need that much for? I run a few vagrant boxes on mine for Ansible development and only have 8GB.
Need to mirror the production build out environment. So a few GB here and there for different machines on KVM. Plus running some dev tools on the main desktop. Nothing crazy, but it only takes a few database VMs to add up.

The fact that it has an ethernet port is a real winner in my book.

That is really nice, for sure. However, this is not a desktop replacement for me, only a mobile device.

Ah ok. Ya I think the most I have running at once is 3-4 but it’s usually auto builds with molecule/vagrant so not much is eaten up (~2-3GB)

The latitudes still have an Ethernet port. It is really nice.

Not the one that I am looking at.

The e7270s and e7280s still have them. I didn’t look at the one you linked.
Edit: the one you said you ordered is an Inspiron?

Oh, sorry, yes.

My 7270 has a normal ethernet on the back. The 7280s have one on the side and it's one of those weird fold down ones. All so they could shave like .2" off the back.

I want a new ultrabook, where do I sign up?

They sure do. It is what I am typing on right now. I just don't like the fact that some laptops are dropping the ethernet port. No ethernet on my Chromebook, that is fine. On my actual laptop please give me that ethernet port. I don't want to have to remember a USB dongle.

What about this? https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA7AB5HF1677

Less powerful, more expensive. Looks nice, though.

I tried customizing those, and 16GB of RAM wasn't available.
Yeah I've noticed the customization option on all products has gone down hill a lot.

Yes, I started looking and it is like WOW this is a lot harder than I thought it would be. I have to say though I haven't looked for a "powerful" machine in such a long time.

It almost seems like you can't buy a powerful machine for under $2K these days, or pretty damned close.
So many vendors are pulling an "Apple" premium price no matter what.

No kidding!
