Smartphones and Tablets can query a lot of blocks because of apps.

Do you have an Amazon Echo or Echo Dot?
Because the single Dot I have is responsible for most of this. -
I do not have a dot or echo. The 6 clients are 4 cell phones the Pi-Hole and my Mac.
-
That top IP is my echo dot

Has anybody had an issue with their Pihole suddenly stop answering DNS requests?
I've had that happen twice in the last 2 days.

gave my echo dot a DHCP reservation and rebooted it yesterday. It has not built back up to the crazy levels of phoning home yet.
But in only 24 hours it is already the top client again.
From the top down.
Echo Dot, Wife's cell phone, my desktop, my laptop.

Curious to those of you who used a cloud VM to install it on ... did you also install a SSL cert?

No cert here. I really never log into it. Like... never ever. I don't even know the password. Once it is up and running, there is essentially no need to look at it for most people. Of those that do need to look at it, just to see traffic, that doesn't require a log in.

I've never logged into the web interface in mine, been managing it through the command line only. If I ever want to look at the web interface, I'll add it via the nginx reverse proxy that's also running on that server.
