XByte sale on R510s
-
Did see an email about it but did not plan on buying yet.
-
Update: they responded, but their prices don't seem to match what Stallard has available. I'm not sure how a sale isn't meeting up with standard prices from another vendor. Odd.

To be completely fair, I think Stallard Tech does off-lease equipment, not factory new like Xbyte. It's a difference worth noting if going into production, but for a home lab either should be fine.

That would not be comparable at all.

I picked up 2 720xd machines with 6 - 4Tb drives, dual Xeons, and 64G RAM on one of the specials a couple months ago. Don't have the exact specs in front of me right now. Total to the door for both was less than $4400. Nice machines. Added the extra warranty as well.

Oh man... that's crazy!

Did anyone else get the email from them about their sale on R510s? The email was sent Aug 10 and I acted then. No one has contacted me back. Is that normal when a sale goes on? They just ignore people once they sell out (presuming that's what happened)? I was hoping to upgrade out of my 2950 for my home lab.
Too many people allies and they are busy accepting POs?
Kidding... xByte are good guys. Give them a call.

How can that be on an R510? These are no longer produced.
-
@grey I think he meant refurbished, in like-new condition.

They keep them in stock.

It's a bit confusing. They are actually not used. But often have been tested.

Hard to believe that they would have brand new servers sitting in a warehouse for 5+ years. Would be good it someone from XByte could clarify.

They've clarified often. They never handle used gear.
-
The way that refurb Dell gear works is that it is still new, but has been passed through a customer, has had a box opened, been returned on a deal with changed specs, etc. It's not legally new, but not used, either.

From their website --
This means that many of the refurbished machines sold by xByte Technologies are not just refurbished, theyβve never been in production. Often times with a refurbished server, you receive the benefit of never used equipment at a significant cost savings by taking advantage of the realities of made to order manufacturing.
Unlike you, they use the words "many" and "often" instead of "never". But it's good to know that most of their stuff is the equivalent of brand new.

I'm quoting them not their website. They've posted and talked about this a lot, including just at MangoCon. They don't sell used Dell.

Just ordered an R510 from them with 32g ram, eight 3tb drives and a pair of 2.13ghz processors. This will replace my 2950 (still running!!) with 16g ram, six 1tb drives with a pair of processors that are dreadful.

Cost $$?

Nice little lab system.
