I never saw the value in the USG. Maybe if you were doing full network automation and copying configs, and then that defeats the purpose of the USG anyway. I have an ERL and an EdgeSwitch Lite at home, along with 2 APs.
The rest of my gear is manageable by Unifi. It's a bit weird my one device that does DPI and edge services isn't.
Ya I wish it would at least send data to the controller. The DHCP service has a spot for it:
but I guess maybe that's just if your APs are DHCP? idk.
That is setting the DHCP option so any UniFi gear you plug in on that DHCP scope will automatically get pointed to the controller.

From that point of view, if that is all you need from the router, the USG is a perfectly valid choice for you.

From that point of view, if that is all you need from the router, the USG is a perfectly valid choice for you.
Really I'm going to keep it as my base layer 4 edge device and likely put an inline IPS system here (Palo Alto currently winning).

For you UBNT experts...when do you use the ERL vs ERX? (short answer is ok)

ERL is my go-to. I have many of them deployed. Don't need the switch ports that are available on the ERX.

No switch, no PoE, more power for the routing. I don't want all that extra stuff in my router.

I use them in both scenarios. I too just need a plain router. Don't need the other features.

Well certainly not ERX. Normally you want rack mount in a colo, so ERP.
