Yes, it's a real thing. A new startup is looking to launch datacenters, powered by Xen, into space where those needed satellite based computing resources can run VMs as needed in orbit. Yes, literally a cloud in the clouds (or above them.) Making the term cloud computing that much more confusing while also apropos.

This is freaking cool! I'm not clear on the use case, but who cares!

I want a VM up there, just to say I'm hosting something in space.

No kidding. And it is Xen, too, which is awesome.

              THIS IS AWESOME!

Will there be a handy interface like on AWS so that we can spin up VMs as needed? Even if expensive this will be the most popular thing ever.

Imagine web hosting from space! Now we know where MegaUpload is headed next!

I totally heard this in my head in Shatner's voice.

That makes it so much better.

How long, I wonder, until hosting plan details are available. Ridiculously expensive, I am sure, but interesting for sure.

This is big news. Some will find it very good and cool, while others will be seriously freaked out by it. I'm curious to see what the actual payload will be for $2M per launch.

Combine this with SpaceX new ISP in space, our entire Internet might be floating above us soon!
