Yeah most other choices use Geosynchronous satellites don't they?

@JaredBusch Yep, which are a heck of a lot further away. These would make satellite phones a lot less annoying too.

Last I heard most satellite phones were using the Iridium satellites now that are in LEO. I know th ecompany failed, but was bought/rescued. Though that memory is years old now, so maybe no longer valid.

That's the great thing about satellites, they hit huge areas equally. So rural areas get the same benefits as cities.
