I rewatched that a few months ago. Haine would not be comfortable with it. Too graphic for her.

Great movie. I just introduced Laura to it last weekend. One anime movie each weekend. This is what we've done so far in no real order:
- Akira
- Princess Mononoke
- Redline
- Garden of Words
- Spirited Away
- My Neighbor Totoro
- Ninja Scroll
- Howl's Moving Castle
- Ponyo
Trying to pick ones that are easier to get into. Ninja scroll was a tough watch for her so I needed to scale it back a bit.

- Akira
This is not easy to get into.

@wirestyle22 Miyazaki has an agenda and pushes it in all of his films. So while they are all simple and generally light for the younger audience, an adult audience can easily be turned off by the pushiness of the messaging.

Yeah I think that's true. She didn't have as many problems with Akira for some reason. Maybe she wasn't paying as much attention, not sure.

Sword of the Stranger is the next one I'm going to show her. Any recommendations are very much appreciated.

Ghost in the Shell if she likes that genre (cyborgs and mental games) at all.
When Marnie was there is Studio Ghibli, but not Miyazaki.
Mary & The Witch's Flower
Mirai
-
@JaredBusch Oh yeah. forgot about Ghost in the Shell. Other three I haven't seen but will definitely check out.

The kids watched Mary & the witch's flower in the theater in Japan in 2017.

Liesl doesn't even register that it is violent, lol.

That is some crazy timing. Not a movie I hear about people watching very often.

I watch Akira every few months myself. It's one of my all-time favorites.

That's what Liesl wanted to watch last night, but I found that I had not transferred it yet so we watched Akira instead.

I first saw it in Japanese in 1994 on a smuggled tape when there wasn't an English version yet. Someone did an in person translation for us as it went.

1995 on a at least 3rd or 4th gen copy of a VHS. I had a script on paper in to read as it played.
edit. no not 1995. I was still attending ITT (please don't kill me it was long ago), because a classmate is the one that gave ti to me. so that means 1992 or 1993.
