I'm wondering if it's even worth while in a business arena.
User needs to be able to work from home just as much as they do in the office. The business buys them this phone, two KVM setups (one for the office, the other for home).
Now his applications are always with him. I suppose this is doable. He data could now always be with him as well - but that brings about it's own risk, so the data should really be in the cloud/hosted with access via internet.

That's what I was saying. I think it's a pretty big "no". I mean there must be an exception, but in any quantity I just cannot imagine it.

Much like a laptop today. But laptops are so much more usable. And consider buying keyboard, mouse and monitor for two locations. That's not free. Then add in the cost of the phone. Two monitors, two keyboards, two mice and a special phone.... will that cost less than an equally powerful laptop? And how many workers will be happy with that? They will have to have a desk at work and a desk at home that are set up like offices... but are useless anytime that the phone is not there so at least half the time each is wasted space. And if riding the train, visiting relatives or working in a hotel their phone won't have those pieces. The laptop is so much more broadly useful, and I bet cheaper and safer. Phones get dropped and broken much more often than laptops.

It could work for business for BOD, most companies provide a phone for business anyway. They would obviously still need to provide a screen keyboard and mouse though.
-
For the cost of a good phone, you can often get users a desktop at work and a desktop at home, each with way more power, too. So many options that do what the phone will often do, but better. Not 100% of the time, but easily 90% of the time.
-
I completely agree Scott.

Not many provide phones. Some do, but not the average.
-
The biggest issue I see with this has already been mentioned.
You'd need double everything desktop wise for it to be operable. I don't want that. I'd just sooner use a laptop, than need everything else for a separate desktop.

Assuming the business doesn't supply a phone, then you above statement is on track, but if they do supply a phone, then the two monitors/keyboard/mouse could be less expensive..
But as you mentioned, completely removes the flexibility that a laptop offers.
-
@scottalanmiller very true, but that would normally be separate desktops, separate apps, unless you are using a hosted desktop but that won't always be the case.
Some people rather have a smaller device then having a laptop on their desktop plus external screen, I cannot stand working on a laptop really.

Now this I can't agree with.
If I'm going to be working at home regularly - I pretty much need a full sized monitor/mouse/keyboard setup.
Heck if i was pulling a scott, I'd be half tempted to purchase a full size monitor and keyboard in each major location he stays for a month or more, then sell/donate the equipment when I leave.
Of course it would all be connected to the laptop I'm taking with me. -
I've got a 17" display on my laptop.
And my laptop will blow any phone off of the planet in performance.

If you think a laptop sucks, wait till all you have is a phone!

I think I will always use a desktop PC, although I am thinking about getting a Intel NUC once I have got a new NAS for home, don't you think towers just look out of place in the modern home??

I don't think they are out of place, but in this context a desktop would make more sense. A laptop would make even more sense as you'd just hook up to a larger monitor if you needed it at your office.

Mine only weighs 9.9 lbs, thank you very much.

Depends. If you are in IT, then tower computers, wires across the floor, access points on a kitchen table and so forth are all crazy and totally out of place. If you are the typical non-technical user, though, oddly having exposed everything and "tech in your face" is the norm. I've never understood this, but everyone I know that is really into IT tends to like to have their systems be invisible (but powerful) and everyone who dislikes computers and has no interest in them is happy to have their house strewn with exposed cables and networking equipment sitting in family use areas!

Seems it should be the opposite, doesn't it?

Depends - are you a power gamer? If yes, then you probably need a tower to house your GPUs, if you're not, then go for the NUC!
I purchased 2 NUC style machines from HP a few years ago for my office and will continue to do so for my locations that don't require cd/DVD access.
