Remix OS Singularity

The biggest issue I see with this has already been mentioned.
You'd need double everything desktop wise for it to be operable. I don't want that. I'd just sooner use a laptop, than need everything else for a separate desktop.

It could work for business for BOD, most companies provide a phone for business anyway. They would obviously still need to provide a screen keyboard and mouse though.
Not many provide phones. Some do, but not the average.
Assuming the business doesn't supply a phone, then you above statement is on track, but if they do supply a phone, then the two monitors/keyboard/mouse could be less expensive..
But as you mentioned, completely removes the flexibility that a laptop offers.
-
@scottalanmiller very true, but that would normally be separate desktops, separate apps, unless you are using a hosted desktop but that won't always be the case.
Some people rather have a smaller device then having a laptop on their desktop plus external screen, I cannot stand working on a laptop really.

Now this I can't agree with.
If I'm going to be working at home regularly - I pretty much need a full sized monitor/mouse/keyboard setup.
Heck if i was pulling a scott, I'd be half tempted to purchase a full size monitor and keyboard in each major location he stays for a month or more, then sell/donate the equipment when I leave.
Of course it would all be connected to the laptop I'm taking with me. -
I've got a 17" display on my laptop.
And my laptop will blow any phone off of the planet in performance.

If you think a laptop sucks, wait till all you have is a phone!

I think I will always use a desktop PC, although I am thinking about getting a Intel NUC once I have got a new NAS for home, don't you think towers just look out of place in the modern home??

I don't think they are out of place, but in this context a desktop would make more sense. A laptop would make even more sense as you'd just hook up to a larger monitor if you needed it at your office.

Depends. If you are in IT, then tower computers, wires across the floor, access points on a kitchen table and so forth are all crazy and totally out of place. If you are the typical non-technical user, though, oddly having exposed everything and "tech in your face" is the norm. I've never understood this, but everyone I know that is really into IT tends to like to have their systems be invisible (but powerful) and everyone who dislikes computers and has no interest in them is happy to have their house strewn with exposed cables and networking equipment sitting in family use areas!

Seems it should be the opposite, doesn't it?

Depends - are you a power gamer? If yes, then you probably need a tower to house your GPUs, if you're not, then go for the NUC!
I purchased 2 NUC style machines from HP a few years ago for my office and will continue to do so for my locations that don't require cd/DVD access.

Does it really matter how much it weighs if it's sitting on a table or desk?
Even the asus ultrabooks would blow any phone away in performance, and they come with nice size displays as well. Something like 16" displays

Sure - today - but look at Scott. He's a highly mobile user, who was using a 10+ year old computer do his work. As long as he can get internet and remote access to things, his power requirements are way less than that of a phone.

If it is a laptop, yes. Because if it is a laptop, it's function is to be portable. Otherwise, a desktop would have been better.
