MSP charged with extortion
-
I mean, technically the Chamber of Commerce WAS breaching the contract. Is he right to shut off services? Does he come off a little vengeful? Is EXTORTION the right crime? Is this too many questions?
-
I and a few others here know the owner of this MSP! Just before he got his with this he actually won an award for that county as best MSP.
Well the client didn't pay their bill. So he shut off services.
And the fact that the new MSP took 10 days to get their email running..... there is a reason why he is cheaper
-
Yup, that's a friend of ours.

Another way to ask it... is it right to ask them to be left on? He has to continue to pay for them, once they are not his customer any longer or paying, he can't maintain a service that they do not want.

@Minion-Queen @scottalanmiller I'm amazed any judge would even charge extortion in the first place.

It's a bit like saying that I went to McDonald's yesterday and bought a hamburger, but refused to pay and ate it anyway. Then today I went to try to steal another hamburger and they refused to give me one unless I paid for the one that I stole yesterday, too.
That's not extortion, that's just a normal financial exchange. You stop delivering things that are not paid for.

Technically, the lawsuit is extortion. It's an attempt to get him to be forced to work for free with the threat of being fined or jailed if he doesn't.
-
@scottalanmiller Classic Georgia!
-
They also charged him with a lot of unrelated things that don't match what they said happened. This suggests you can sue the phone company if you stop paying your bills and they turn off your phone service. Their story that the papers reported didn't match up to the crimes that they charged him with. Even the Chamber of Commerce's own description was that he did nothing wrong.
-
This is @jimk for those that know him. He's an old timer around here.

The "good old boy" network fails again.

@scottalanmiller if they need a good defense attorney, I have a good recommendation (HS buddy who fights the good fight).

He might be seeing this thread, he was just on FB a few minutes ago.

According to the article, he was owed $78K which is a large sum of money. It's not like he shut off service when they owed him $3k.
-
Ewww..... Forsyth County. No wonder they are going overboard.
-
That's crazy...
If I stop paying my internet bill, they will shut it off. Why should it be any different for the chamber of commerce for a different service?
-
@scottalanmiller I'm here.
-
Hi @jimk!!
For obvious reasons Jim can't really talk about stuff. But jeeze louise we need to get the message out there that a client suing an MSP for shutting unpaid for services is not extortion and it's their fault!
