I'm on Ubuntu 16.10 and want a general purpose instant messenger client that can connect to a few things potentially, but really just Facebook for now (that way I don't have to have that page open.) Anyone have one that they really like? I like Pidgin but it doesn't seem to be preferred on Ubuntu. Any thoughts?

Pidgin was always my favorite. I actually used Pidgin on Linux before I ever used it on Windows by close to a decade. Still my favorite universal messenging app.

Agreed - Pidgin is a great cross platform IM application

I used Empathy a long time ago. I haven't used a chat app other than Telegram and hangouts in forever though.

Pidgin is certainly good, won't go wrong there.
