@scottalanmiller I would join that if it wasn't set purely for italian on DuoLingo. My first attempt at a new language will be french. lol
-
Keep in mind your roommate can help you practice with French.

It doesn't let you choose a language

As can my girlfriend. Hence a good reason why I'm learning it. lol
-
My family has no interest in learning another language, because of 'Merica.

But America officially speaks Spanish.

I plan on learning Spanish, French, Chinese, and Irish. At least lol

I'm trying hard for Italian, Spanish and some Romanian.

I found out that the percentages mean nothing, there are complaints all over DuoLingo about it. I was 48% in Italian weeks ago, down to 43% now even though I have finished it and do five to ten practice sessions per day. Turns out each language's percentages are totally different and being 100% on DL will randomly give you from 25-65% but never more. It's totally arbitrary and tells you nothing. Your completion rate and level are the only telling numbers
-
Well that sucks... I'm almost through the basics. lol
-
@marigabyfrias got to 54% on French in one day, which is higher than most of the languages even go, for example. Italian is believed to not top 50% even when perfect. Spanish goes the highest, rumoured that one guy once hit 65%.

Yeah, you get like 20% for getting the first four lessons done. Then you never get beyond 43% even when doing two hours every day for months and completing everything

I've been at 40% on Spanish for a while now, while only doing lessons occasionally.

You can see how much I'm doing on Italian, and even with it being maxed out and all of those lessons being "practice" only, I'm dropping in percentages over time. It's a bit ridiculous. I do DL as just one of the four things that I do. I assure you that I'm putting in crazy DL time, I'm on a 42 day streak and I know so much more Italian today than three weeks ago when I was at a higher percentage ranking. I have NO IDEA why it keeps dropping.

Mine hasn't dropped yet, which is nuts because I never get to it on the weekends, and I've been pretty slack this week as well.

I'm guessing that it takes 20-30 practice sessions per day on Italian just to hold 43%.

I do have certain lessons that "deprecate" and show me as having 4/5 on ones I have completed in the past. Then you just do the "strengthen lesson" quiz and you're back at 5/5.

Yes, and it takes around 30 per day on Italian to keep up at a steady state. You can see how many I'm doing each week, and it goes down, not up. That's how fast they deprecate.

I'm at 120xp for today
