Unsolved AS400 support?
-
A local vendor is looking for someone that can support an AS400 and called me. I have no experience with them. Do any of you still support AS400s? I guess they are looking for someone they can call if something goes wrong while they try to port the jobs that were running on it to other platforms.

Is there any need for a specific application or just the hardware or the operating system?
-
@scottalanmiller I think it's just the hardware and the OS. It sounds like they wrote the application.
-
Got a few questions for you on that
- hardware or software support (Software I would imagine)
- Is it AS/400 Unix or some other system.
- Do you know the software system they are working with to move over?
Very good friend of mine knows a fair amount. - those are his questions.

Ah okay. But they still know how the application works? Seems like if they did, they'd know the AS/400 inside and out.
Even in the 1990s when AS/400 still existed, you needed IBM directly for support as this is a proprietary platform. You can get used parts on eBay, but they are ancient and generally in very bad shape.

AS/400 is specific hardware that runs OS/400. Similar Power hardware running UNIX was the RS/6000. They did not merge until the System i days. So anything called AS/400 is OS/400 without exception.

@Mike-Davis - Did you get the information yhou needed.

@gjacobse The customer didn't get back to me, so I'm waiting on them.
