(lying to them about cost savings) to trick them. That's how Vmware happens in the SMB (and in SW.)
yeah pretty much exactly.

I cannot believe how often on SW people come out and seem to actually brag about how they screw over their clients. He actually presents his strategy here for taking suckers, making something that is overly expensive look feasible, and hide the truth from them. And he thinks that posting that unethical strategy publicly is actually good?

Though, I did get a good tingly feeling when I seen that my VPS host is using RedHat... it makes me believe that they are getting good support for their back-end setup.
I've never worked for a VPS host before, so my feeling may be wrong. But the idea seems nice anyways.

Nothing wrong with support, if it is needed or makes sense. And VMware is great for that. But in the example case, he doesn't get Vmware support, he's selling the no support version to the customers which just screws them.

@dbeato Yes, but this is what I see...
Your Filtering or Ublock is doing something there. Open Incognito and check.

I can only imagine he's either technically incompetent and can't figure out how to deploy and support anything and somehow is able to get far enough with Vmware to get it deployed and walk away before anything bad happens; or more likely he's a VAR and lying about being in IT.

That's insane. I wonder who his customers are? It would be nice to see what they think of it.

Yeah, I wonder how many of them would be happy if they read the thread and saw that there were free, supported options that they hadn't been told about and how he gave them a false comparison to make his overcharing seem rational.

Now he ONLY cares about mimicking hardware, not software, architecture, design, etc. in his lab. Basically, he just wants to buy servers without any idea why.

Like every crazy thread, ask what the real goal is and get ignored. The entire idea of knowing what you are trying to accomplish is just so foreign!

After three pages that show that no one can figure out what his needs are, he comes back rude stating that we should have just given him a simple answer (one that didn't even match what he asked for!)

I posted another reply...

That Robert guy that I reported as being a malicious troll two weeks ago is at it again making up obvious lies to mislead people on SW. He claims things so crazy, it's hard to understand how he thinks that he comes across as plausible.
Now he claims that backup copies of VMs require MS licensing as if they were running! How dumb does he think people on SW are?

Forgot I had him ignored. I seen that doesn' tdo much... it just hides his posts but you can expand them anyways...

I have him muted, but I see when other people start pointing out when he's making crap up. It's amazing how often I still see him trying to trick people, given that I only see it indirectly.

The amount of misinformation in that topic is just staggering.

Yeah. It's like the goal of most of those people.

I think the problem is because Microsoft uses terms differently than the industry.
For example, Microsoft uses "cold backup" to mean hyper-v VM replica. In which case, you must have SA or purchase an additional license.
So in that way, Robert is correct and we were wrong...

If you are going to use a false term, you MUST state that you are stating a falsehood but using a known false statement in a true way given the accepted false statement. You can't just lie and claim that someone else lied and that that makes it true. There is a way he could state it truthfully. If he just states the lie, it remains totally a lie.

It's like Microsoft's physical license for their host VM. It's not physical. If you repeat the term physical you have to state somehow that you are using MS' false licensing term and not saying that the VM is physical, because it is not in any way physical.
