Wait, I've posted some YT vid where someone prays: "Thou shall not use RAID-5 on spindles. Use RAID-6 instead! You'll see a huge performance boost!" without @scottalanmiller instantly raging? SAM, are you ok?

I'm pissed about the entitled MS licensing whining going on, moreso.

          Found this on the interwebz

"I have to go to a client's site twice a week, and due to poor connectivity to WiFi in the server room I want to bring in a portable AP so that I can connect to their network. They are too cheap to purchase another AP so this is my only option"

Why can't you simply take the same patch panel cable you'd connect to this "portable" AP, and plug this directly into your laptop?!

Trying to find a good place to put this, I felt as though "I can't even" seemed appropriate.

Salesman wants to talk VOIP so I entertained him. Local company, nice guy, I'll hear you out. Just brought by this proposal with a straight look on his face.

For context, we currently only use about 2500 minutes per month. Who actually buys this stuff?!

A lot of people buy it that way because they don’t know how cheap VoiP is outside the retail of it.

These are "Explosion Proof" phones rated for use in our chemical plant. The funny thing about that is they wouldn't even be supplying new phones for this, they would just supply the converters to go from SIP to analog, yet still want $10/mo for it. Oh, and a 5yr contract. :exploding_head:

@zachary715 That's still like 500% cheaper than what we got sucked into 5+ years ago (10 year contract)! If I had been working here that long ago, I'd definitely had gone with yealink/voip.ms/freepbx/vultr for WAYYYY less.

To the guy who only wants his question answered in the way he imagines it should be answered...

Sorry, but this means you don't understand several things...

                                          1. That this is a community and not your private free helpdesk. You get the responses that people are willing to give. If you want to dictate how people answer, you have to pay for that right. You can hire most people here and you can say "only answer my question and never try to actually help me" all you want, because you are paying the bills. When you ask for free help, you implicitly agree to accept whatever help is offered, period. It is not okay to post like this, you agree to not have this kind of say in what answers you get by using a free community instead of paying for support.
                                          2. As the person needing help, you can't possibly have all the answers and know what is needed. So you can never know what "answering the question" really means, nor can we. You might think that you asked the right question, but without knowing the answer you can't actually know. And if you don't know, then we can't know either. We have to work through it together. If you don't want that extra stuff, you don't want the real answer either. THis is how IT works, as someone who works in IT, you should understand and appreciate this. Imagine if your end users treated you like this - just answer their questions, don't actually try to fix things that are wrong or improve things. You'd never accept an end user acting like that, why would we accept an IT Pro doing it when they have to know better.
                                          3. This is what HELPING looks like. Just answering a question isn't helpful, it is just someone trying to get a best answer or get credit for a quick post. People who CARE take time to actually try to help. Please don't discourage people from being friendly, professional, and helpful. I don't know why you would ever want to discourage people assisting you, but since others come here to get that help, there is no way to know who is here and wants real help and those that aren't. We can't throw the baby out with the bathwater here. We'd have to sacrifice the best community members and the best help to act this way and it would undermine the value and the point of a community such as this.

@scottalanmiller I think I saw a post like this on 🌶 today and just laughed.

How can you ask a question, and be upset when people ask things like "why can't you upgrade? This issue is fixed if you upgrade...".
