Solved New OS on a toshiba Satelite laptop
-
I was asked to wipe the HDD clean, and install a new operating system on a family laptop, i have Linux Mint 18 on a live USB drive that when I insert, doesnt show up on the multiboot selection menu. Any suggestions? Internet has a nasty virus and they want it wiped clean.

Did you select your USB as first device during boot?

@scottalanmiller yes

Put Linux Mint 18 on a DVD and load that way.

+HDD should expand when you select it, to show you the USB to boot from.
If not, in BIOS there should be an option to move the USB drive higher up into the device selection screen.

Thanks! It worked, off the top of your head does Linux Mint have drivers built in? I cant remember
-
@WrCombs Yes must stuff will just work in Linux Distros these days.
-
@WrCombs
Mint should work on just about anything without much work -
No need to usually search for drivers

Yeah Mint is generally the GoTo OS for most people.
Nothing special to do to get the hardware to work. It just does.

Definitely in theory, if Mint installs it will all just work and work really well.
