@Nic said in Time for me to move on from Webroot:

I'm jumping ship to rejoin the startup world and begin a new endeavor building a community from scratch: http://growersnetwork.org/ (insert your weed jokes here).

I'll still hang out on here, just not officially representing Webroot. I'm still happy to answer any Webroot questions and help you get in touch with the right people at Webroot if you need help. We'll get a replacement for me once they can hire someone, but in the meantime I'll fill in.

I'll be working from home now, so anyone passing through Colorado let me know so I can have an opportunity to get out of the house and socialize with people in person 🙂

Good luck sounds like this is right up your alley... and I don't mean the weed.

Yeah I get what you mean - more in the startup world, and building a new endeavor. Plus it's something I believe in, providing good medical options to people who need it, plus a safer recreational drug than alcohol.

Good luck in the next stage.

rofl - I thought you were kidding about the weed jokes, figured it was a farming community or something. I was incorrect lol

Best of luck Nic! You're a prime example of a good web community member and I know you'll kick ass where ever you go.

You were correct... cannabis growers are farmers too.

@RojoLoco There's farming, and there's "farming" - though you are technically correct.

That's just a matter of scale, and I would hope that in the newly free state of Colorado, the ganja farmers are doing it big.

We only differ in semantics 😄

It's farming, but with some interesting constraints. You have to secure your plants in a way that other industries don't require, and you have to track them from seed to harvest for compliance reasons. The other interesting factor is that because it's been illegal for so long, there's not as much public knowledge or scientific research like there is for other crops. That's part of what we're hoping to change with the Growers Network community.

That's weird, I thought that there was more knowledge than with other crops. You know in hydroponic circles, nearly all industry knowledge comes from marijuana farming. Everyone that grows tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, etc. learns from marijuana educational materials.

That's probably true in more recent history, but there's not the longer term build-up of knowledge due to it having been illegal in most places for so long. Plus the grow operations are becoming bigger now (or at least the legitimate ones are). Whatever the current state, we're hoping to collect and improve on the knowledge that's out there and provide a place for professionals to share knowledge. The Spiceworks of Cannabis, if you will 🙂

But that is more info on indoor growing in general. Much less is known about the specifics of cultivating various cannabis strains than is known about tomatoes or other veggies.

And please don't call it marijuana, that's the slang term popularized by the fear mongers that made it illegal in the first place.

So cannabis is the correct term for the plant as a whole as grown? Funny that I'm not actually aware of that. 🙂
