@DustinB3403 sorry I do not have a dongle for the Ipad as I have always gone the software route. I have tried what you asked, however still and have no issues switching back and forth. So I am not able to help you any further.

yeah I know, it takes a lot to formulate an accurate thought here, 97 degrees outside, plus running around heavily in dress clothes.

And it isn't much cooler in this hotel, but things are very pretty here..

and to answer your question @Breffni-Potter it is called Synergy. I use it all the time between my MacBook Pro and my Windows 10 desktop.

Oh I haven't used VGA for anything in a long time 😛

HDMI might work as well, just figured most people dont own HDMI projectors

That would be weird in this day and age. HDMI is the only really common connection technology. All of my projectors are HDMI.

Almost everyone I know has a projector that is VGA. A few have HDMI.

HDMI was not standard on the majority of projectors on the market even 5 years ago. Sure plenty of them existed and have for years. But the majority of the ones on the market were VGA. That has thankfully changed.

*Based on my research for a few projectors for a client in 2011.

I think that was right on the cusp. We had our VGA projector for home in 2003. Everyone I know that bought a project, other than us, did so 2010 or later and were not doing it before then because they were waiting for HDMI. By 2010, everyone I know started buying projectors for the first time because they were HDMI and truly useful to them after that point. Mine from 2012 is HDMI and wasn't novel or anything at the time. That's when we replaced our VGA because it was old to the point of being problematic.

What about HDMI made them more useful? You can generally convert from VGA into HDMI.
The bigger issue was getting one that didn't break the bank at 1080p or higher resolution. (like JB I haven't looked in 4+ years).

Converting alone is less useful. Everything outputs HDMI, almost nothing does VGA.

                        1080p was cheap in 2012.
