Developer Job??

  • It is long time to mangolassi to me where busy with the daily tickets.
My friend need is also working as Desktop Support Engineer in one company,he saw one person for his career. The person is asking him to develop his career as Software Developer.
He asked me suggestion for that job.
Whether Desktop Support person as Software Developer make his career good.
The job is to learn HTML,CSS and Java,Jquery .Then they will give some task to the person and satisfaction of the Manager they will recruit the person for their company.
There are two profile Front End Developer and Back End Developer.Which would be good for his career??

  • If he likes to design web sites and make things look and work well, then a Front End developer position would be better.

If he likes working with data and knows a lot about MySQL, or MongoDB or other database systems, he'd be better off with the back-end developer's position.

Welcome back, was wondering where you had been.

HTML and CSS are not developer skills, those are designer skills. Very different from development. Good to know, sure. But this is fishy.

JavaScript goes with JQuery, Java does not. Java is unrelated to all the other things mentioned here.

Whatever one really interests him. That's the only major factor.

  • Pretty much anything should be an improvement from a desktop supporters point of view. Exception: Web designer. The market is crowded with "build you a 1000 page website for $20" offers, so your friend has to be really good to make a stand.

There are a few people who do awesome stuff with JS. NodeJS, AngularJS and jQuery are just a few examples for great projects where actual developers work. A Web designer who uses HTML, CSS and maybe some JS framework is most likely not a developer.

PS: @scottalanmiller already said that, but you can't repeat that often enough: JavaScript = the only CLIENT (mostly) side language thar most browsers support. Java = modern OO language.

Backend. He could get a taste of real development. Frontend = Designer role.

Don't do work for them before you are hired. This sounds like a scam to get work done without pay.

  • @Jason They are giving some practice or giving class in the HTML and CSS then they will hire that person by his performance

Instead of using a portfolio? That doesn't sound legit.
