Any one ever noticed how many companies put their IP cameras directly on the internet with no or default passwords? heck some of them even have PTZ control.

                  Among other things.

I mean, if it's on the Internet and open, Shodan will find it.

these companies don't give a shit about security, only making a quick buck.

There is no name brand good home automation solution available right now that I'm aware of. They all suffer some pretty serious security flaws.

The main thing keeping them going is that hackers often don't take advantage by visiting those people's homes.

If the customers cared, the company would care.

Customers don't care because they don't know. Or is it they don't know, so they don't care?

The issue comes down to the fact that people are naturally trusting. The lack of natural suspicioun precludes peoples motives to look for what might be wrong with the system.

I trust everyone about as far as I can throw them (before I get to know them or if they buy me beer I trust them instantly)

Yeah we drink moonshine straight, and our boat actually flies above the water, and we have magical wands we just wave over problems to make them go away.

What does that website have to do with an evil computer out to destroy humanity? Damn companies taking good names and making them bad/meaningless.
