Resistance is futile.

I forget where we last discussed this. Is anyone planning on doing any talks on Salt?

That would be a good session -
-
@gjacobse I was thinking about something like real world examples/use cases of using salt on various platform and workloads.

I like salt on my potato...
Yes, agreed. @scottalanmiller is using Salt, we have it deployed on a server or three. But a Use Case is helpful.... Why do I want to use it over (x)
-
@gjacobse Exactly. "Here's how I use Salt for:" Linux Web server, Windows Web server, PBX, MySQL/Maria DB server, etc. If the entire conference was about Salt, I'd be OK with that. I also like pepper, but that is not what we're discussing right now.

I worked through (and hopefully made some good suggestion for changes to) the instructions @scottalanmiller set up for Salt when setting up my Wordpress instance on Fedora.
Maybe something like that would be a good framework to go from nothing to a working instance, and then repeat it again using the work that was done (if needed) to create another instance.

I think that you will probably see at least something about that.

@GerryWisnoski I hope your liver is ready, this is much more than just a tech conference.

Book smarts can be helpful... But nothing beats honest-to-God real world experience... and that goes for pretty much anything, I think.
-
@scottalanmiller Exactly. Academia is fine. That boring straight-laced no-real-world-experience stuff -- not so much
