OwnCloud or NextCloud etc?

Using Owncloud here for over 50 users, no problems.

What does it run on? A VM? Linux? What version? x32 or x64?
-
Running Nextcloud (1x v9.0.53 and 1 x v10) at two clients. They're recent setups but so far they really love them. Both running as VMs in hyper-v. Included in the Veeam backups (tested restores and they work) so all in all, I'm quite happy with Nextcloud!

What is to love about it?
Not being facetious, just thought they were quite feature-poor compared to most other common offerings.

ownCloud/NextCloud is feature poor? What? You obviously are not doing something right.

What are comparing it to? Nextcloud can do file sharing without issues. It can also integrate with LibreOffice online.

Compared to business class OneDrive, Box, MediaFire. Yes. But I haven't tried NextCloud in probably a year, hence the question about the current state of things.
If NextCloud is the current goto standard, I'll give it another go.

Nextcloud hadn't been out for a year. It matches pretty much everything that OneDrive and the others can do what do you think is missing?

@guyinpv As I mentioned, the installs are still relatively new but they are working flawlessly. The desktop sync clients haven't skipped a beat (can't say the same for OneDrive For Business desktop clients which I had to remove and reinstall a half dozen times because they always locked up), Easy to manage admin interface. Love the ability to autotag files that are uploaded. Built-in file access controls. Built-in retention (I've got it set to autotag for one user so that uploaded files are automatically deleted after 5 days). The built-in letsencrypt process (for Ubuntu) is the most painless way of managing and renewing SSL certs. Who cares that I have to run the renew script once every 3 months...it's literally a single line of code to renew.
You're looking for self-hosted file sharing and sync? This is exactly what this does.

True, at that time it would have been OwnCloud. I found many of the features broken, such as the plugin system, photo galleries, and more.
One thing I like is changing sharing type and permissions. For example share page, read-only, direct link, temp limits, etc.
I liked file upload boxes in MediaFire, I could give someone a link and they could upload to ME in a folder.
I like the history features, showing who made last changes, and going back in revisions.
I like audit logs about activities, and a good trash bin system.I mainly just wanted to know what everybody is using. I can't really argue about features since I last tried OwnCloud a year ago. I'm sure they've improved since then.

All of those but the upload box were available more then a year ago. We're working on getting OneDrive for business setup for us because it is included with our O365.

Proof that you are talking out your backside. Because:

NextCloud is a fork of ownCloud 9. If you want to know more about that, search the forum here. The devs posted immediately when it happened.
NextCloud is supposed to now have a RPM based install method, but I have been too busy to test it out. If they have that worked out, then it will become my new recommendation. If they have not, then I will still recommend ownCloud for people that do not want to manually maintain everything.
NextCloud is riding the fork wave right now and is seeing rapid feature improvement and such. Time will tell if that momentum stays.

Notice how I said "probably a year"?
Sorry if I didn't have it memorized the exact date and time NextCloud was released. I'm well aware it's a fork and read all about it when it happened.
I suggest you quit trolling me for a few minutes, lol
If it makes you happy again, I'm going to give Next a try and see what happens. New year, new server, new environment.
Thread over.

Personal preference for OwnCloud here.

You've used both? What do you feel makes ownCloud better?
-

It's early, but seems to be the case. ownCloud was doing great, but had some issues with the latest (9th) generation of releases. Why they were having issues was clear when NextCloud split from them and started a new product with the forked code base and original developers (which kind of makes ownCloud the dead fork of NextCloud ideologically speaking) and now NextCloud is a full release past ownCloud. It's getting tons of features and work that OC lost even before the split. They are still rough around the edges, so the final verdict isn't in yet, but it's looking like NC is the future.

Is there any real advantage to nextcloud vs owncloud?
Is there any real reason to switch from owncloud to nextcloud?
Also will my theme modifications stay if I migrate?

Support is the reason to go with NextCloud. Unsure about theme.
