The gravatar site had a rather major security flaw that if used on other NodeBB sites, a users contact information was presented to everyone.
Just apply your avatar directly on this site.

I finally found it. I kept seeing upload a photo. I didn't realize that was for the little icon. I was thinking it was the full page banner photo on the profile.
