As If We Couldn't Have Another Example of Why We Need A' la Carte Cable TV

I pulled the cord years ago as discussed in another thread.
Same here. I voted with my wallet.

I have uverse and am contemplating dropping the tv side. Now that I have a roku, and my tv is hooked up to my network and have plex fully running I am starting to see that I don't really need cable. Most channels I watch are available somewhere and the shows that are on discovery I am sure I can find somewhere else.

What is Plex?
-
@Dashrender https://plex.tv/ it's home media server software. I love it. setup was easy, connects with a roku app, android/ios apps available (fee applicable) connects to my network tv, non-smart tv over dlna. Stream movies and music to my tv, tablet (internal wifi). I haven't tried the plex app for android yet since I don't have the port open on my firewall.

It's pretty awesome. Also available on Synology DSM too
yeah i forgot to add that. I wanted to get a synology nas to take the place of my quad core tower (that is complete overkill for this situation) and my wife vetoed that
-
Small NAS for home is a great way to go.
-
@scottalanmiller yes, yes it is, but the price point for me is just a tad high (according to my wife)
-
When I bought my ReadyNAS it was $279.
-
And a NAS will typically use less power, make less noise and produce less heat than something else.
-
@scottalanmiller completely agree however my money is now allocated to my roof (which might get replaced due to the hail we are about to get) electrical upgrade and replacement of a window. So the nas will have to wait
-
Oh the joys of home ownership.
-
oh yea, i bought a house why again... ha ha

Part of the reason I can't buy toys
I have to save up for new flooring and possibly new Windows and a patio door this year. Last year was a kitchen remodel.

Start a garden, I'll even sell you a bag of doughnut seeds for $20, really rare and hard to come by.

I can never fully decide if stuff like that is cute and creates a sense of wonder, or just lying so you can laugh at your kids behind their backs.

Home ownership definitely gets tiresome. No doubt there.
