Ugh, this computer replacement took about 3 hours to long thanks to snowflake government software.
Is that the software used by the princess from Frozen?
This is government issue. It's at least 10 years old if not more, lol.
down here, medical practices that need to access a govt medical service online have to run Java 2.x to access functionality within the govt web site. scary but true.

so i'm fiddling around with a ubuntu build on vultr, i'm no linux person.
I run up a simple machine, reset root password. logout & log back in using the new password, so i've confirmed the password is ok.
install lubuntu desktop coz I want a gui.
reboot, but I can longer log in, says password is incorrect. Tried this at least 4 times, meaning i've nuked the vm and started from scratch 4 times.
wednesday thursday friday (wtf).
what am i missing???
What @scottalanmiller said. Hit Ctrl+Alt+F(1-8) to get a command prompt and try logging in there.
Thanks @travisdh1 i'll try to remember that key combo.
i'm uploading the ubuntu desktop iso and i'll use that instead.

i got this week off. not much different to a work week. weather is terrible, strong wind and rain, so camping is out.
we can't leave the state, so that's out. the kids are stuck in lock down, allowed out for 2 hours a day, so we also have a degree of holiday guilt. -
Looking at purchasing Zoho mail for one of my personal domains. Want to migrate away from an ISP provided email account. Already own the domain. Anyone using it? Good? Bad? Very affordable and I don't mind paying for something that doesn't have adds and other garbage.

NTG and CCWTech both run on it, we love it.

Sounds almost like here. They are forced to use Internet Explorer to download an executable that then sets up a VPN endpoint.... to load a webpage. So much fail.

When google finally kills my legacy access to all the thing for my personal domain, I will move to ZoHo. Assuming they are still like they are now.
But for now, Google is not kicking me off, some, there is no reason to move.

Something popped and released the magic smoke last night. Just figured out it's my graphics card Have to replace it before I can play games again

@scottalanmiller @JaredBusch I went ahead and set up a Zoho account. It was very easy and it even built the DNS records on the registrar. Only needed 2 email accounts. $24 plus tax for a year. Been using the ISP provided email for 20+ years, and I don't even have them for a provider anymore.

how often do you work on a problem for some time, then finally decide to post asking for help and while you're typing, the answer, or at least new ideas, spring to mind and you end up solving the problem.
just happened. thanks ML. -

For MeshCentral, you can go on the "My Server" tab and click "Check Server Version" to know if you want/need to update.
With so much development, I just update ever two or three days.

There's actually two version to choose from now, stable and latest. You can also enable auto-update in the config.json file. That's what mine is set to.
-
For ZeroTier, I install that via chocolatey. While chocolatey updates everything daily via choco-upgrade-all-at.

Finally getting discharged from the hospital/rehab. Been here since Sept 3rd, not sure I'm actually ready to go home, but insurance decided that's all they're paying for.
